The Commissioners

The current membership of the Commission, which was inaugurated in July 1993, is as follows;

 
DR. KWADWO AFARI-GYAN, Chairman. A former university teacher of political science, he received his B.A. and M.A. degrees from the University of Ghana, Legon, and his doctorate degree from the University of California at Santa Barbara. He was a deputy chairman of the Interim National Electoral Commission (INEC), which conducted the 1992 referendum on the draft constitution and the subsequent presidential and parliamentary elections. Before then, he served as a member of the Committee of Experts, which drafted the proposals for the 4th Republican Constitution. He has continued to be with the Commission since 1992 and has considerable International recognition and reputation in electoral matters. He has written four books and several articles on political, constitutional and electoral issues.

MR. DAVID AZEY ADEENZE-KANGAH, Deputy Chairman in charge of Finance and Administration. He holds a Bsc. degree and Diploma in Education from the University of Cape Coast. He has done post-graduate studies at the Universities of London and Leeds in the U.K. and holds a MA in (Conflict Resolution) from Antioch University Ohio, in the United States. An educationist,a Headmaster for 17 years and he has served as a member of the National Commission for Democracy (NCD) and the Interim National Electoral Commission (INEC). He is a conflict Consultant and   the board Chairman of WANEP.

  MR. KWADWO SARFO-KANTANKA, Deputy Chairman in charge of Operations. A barrister at law, he received his LL.B degree from the University of Ghana, Legon. He was in private legal practice before his current appointment. Mr Sarfo Kantanka assumed office in March 1995 to replace Mr. Dixon Afreh who was appointed a justice of the Appeal Court in October 1994.

OTHER CHANGES IN MEMBERSHIP OF THE COMMISSION
In June 1995,Dr. M . K .Puni ,one of the members of the Commission died and in February 2004, Ms. Elizabeth Solomon, Mrs. Theresa Cole and Professor Ernest Dumor all members of the Commission retired from active service on account of age. In their places the President of the Republic of Ghana on the advice of the Council of State appointed other persons as members of the Commission to fill the vacancies so created.
 
They are:

  3. Madam Eunice Akweley Roberts
  4. Mr. E. Aggrey Fynn

Following is a short brief on each of the new Commissioners:

   
MRS. PAULINA ADOBEA DADZAWA –Member. A Practitioner in Human Resource Management and holds a BA Hons Degrees in Spanish, French and linguistics. She had worked in other West African countries. She has attended a number of courses and seminars in order to qualify as an international Civil Servant.

MR. AGGREY FYNN. He holds a BA Hons and an MBA in Sociology with Political Science and Marketing from the University of Ghana, Legon. He has considerable experience in Industry and Social Work.

  NANA AMBA EYIIBA I,. Krontihene of Oguaa Traditional Area. She has served on a number of Commissions and Boards.  She holds a B. ED degree in Psychology (Post Dip.) and up to the time of her appointment in Electoral Commission, she was reading an MPhil. Degree ED.ADM programme. She is an educationist, having taught as a teacher for thirty-two (32) years. She is a consultant on Culture

MADAM EUNICE AKWELEY ROBERTS – She is a graduate fromtheUniversity of Cape Coast. She has several academic qualifications to her credit. Until her appointment, she was the personnel Manageress of Challenge Enterprises of Ghana. She taught for a period of eight (8) years before joining the Challenge Enterprise Management Team as Personnel and Enquiry Centre Manageress.
She has served on a number boards and committees as a member and she has a number of publications to her credit.
