....AS AFRICAN DEVELOPMENT (ADB) RECOMMENDS SUSPENSION OF FUNDING FOR 31ST DWM “SPONSORED” PROJECTS IN GHANA The 31st December Women’s Movement (DWM) headed by Mrs. Konadu Agyemang Rawlings, is still at ease with the interim report on resources extended to it by the Government of Ghana (GoG) recently released by the Auditor-General. According to the report, total resources extended to DWM amounted to $4.4 million (¢11.8 billion). The movement, which, was registered as an NGO but functioned as a political wing of the NDC, the report revealed, never paid any corporate income tax. During the period of 9-19 December 2000, an African Development Bank (ADM) mission visited Ghana to undertake a project completion report for the Women’s Community Development Project, where it requested that the movement furnish the Bank and the GoG with amounts paid and owed to construction firms among others but DWM did not comply with this request.

The ADM concluded that “while awaiting satisfactory information related to the request above, we feel the Government would be prudent to suspend the movement of all project accounts across the country.”

The report recommended that the AG has urged the Government of Ghana to take urgent steps to recover the various sums owed by DWM to it (GoG).
