A group of students of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in Kumasi on Saturday has launched Agenda '7117 for Nana' amid pomp and pageantry.

Agenda 7117 represents the inauguration of Nana Akufo-Addo, the presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) as Ghana's President on 7th January, 2017 by the Chief Justice, the group stated.

Agbolo Nartey Isaac, spokesperson for the group, said Agenda '7117 for Nana' was launched ostensibly to mobilize students on the KNUST campus and the nearby areas to campaign rigorously for Nana Akufo-Addo.

'Our mission is to ensure that the Chief Justice swears Nana Akufo-Addo in as President come 7th January, 2017, hence the name 'Agenda 7117 for Nana,' he stated, adding that the contribution of the youth would be crucial to ensure victory for the NPP in 2016.

Mr Nartey said 'the success of our political party in election 2016 depends on vibrant and energetic youth who are ready to help our quest to win election 2016. The exuberance, energies and the zeal we have exhibited as youth send strong signal to the outside world that we are ready to battle for power in 2016.'

He criticized Mahama administration and the NDC for mismanaging Ghana's economy, saying 'their incompetence and mismanagement have led to massive youth unemployment.

Mr Nartey said the reintroduction of the cash and carry system in the health sector, the continuous depreciation of the Ghana currency, excessive borrowing, non-payment of common funds to the district assemblies among others, indicate that the NDC government had failed woefully to improve the lives of Ghanaians.

He said Ghana was on the path to oblivion due to bad governance, stressing the need for the electorate to vote for Nana Akufo-Addo to save the country by implementing better policies and programmes to bring hope to the people once again.

The spokesperson stated that his group, which is made up of over 200 students, would be visiting the hinterlands to encourage the people about the need for them to vote for Nana Akufo-Addo and the NPP in 2016.

Hard work is the surest way of ensuring victory for the NPP in 2016, he said, noting that his group, formed in July 2015, would kick-start their campaign for 2016 next weekend.

'We will stop on the day that Nana Akufo-Addo will be sworn in as president of Ghana.'
