Accra, Oct. 3, GNA - An Accra Circuit Court has sentenced Ebenezer Asuma, a construction worker, to 10 years in prison in hard labour for possession of wee.

Ebenezer was convicted on his own plea.
Prosecuting Deputy Superintendent of Police Kwaku Brempeh told the court that the complainant in the case is a police officer stationed at Nmai-Dzorn.

He said on September 23, the Nmai-Dzorn police had information that the convict and his accomplice were trading in some substances suspected to be Indian hemp at Adjiriganor.

He said a team of policemen were dispatched to the scene and the convict and one Abraham Amponsah were met in a kiosk with quantity of dried leaves and seeds suspected to be Indian hemp preparing to be wrapped.

The prosecution said the two were arrested and sent to the Adentan police station for investigations.

'During investigations, the convict claimed ownership of the substance and stated that he derives his energy from using the substance to work,' he added.

However, Abraham stated that he only went to the convict to collect his debt. Abraham has since been remanded to reappear on October 14.
