Hearts of Oak made amends for their stinging 0-2 loss to New Edubiase by trouncing relegation-threatened Wassaman United 3-0 at the Accra Stadium yesterday.

Earlier, the Phobian's had lost to bitter rivals Asante Kotoko in Kumasi and drawn 0-0 against Ebusua Dwarfs, dislodging them from the points table.

A goal in the first half and a double after the interval was enough to take them back to the second spot and put smiles on the faces of the sparse crowd that witnessed the game.

Hearts' forward Mahatma Otoo put his side in front by placing a pass beyond the reach of goalkeeper Stephen Ahorlu 18 minutes to the end of the first half.

Wassaman fought back to cancel the lead a few minutes after the opener, but goalkeeper Sammy Adjei intervened with a timely flip over the bar.

Both sides made good use of the few goal-scoring chances that came their way after the break until Uriah Asante's deflected strike in the 63 rd minute.

Hearts probed further by throwing more men in front, and one of their runs resulted in advancing goalkeeper Ahorlu, fouling skillful Ashitey Olenu in the box for a spot-kick which defender Godwin Osei Bonsu converted to make the score-line three in the dying minutes.

That has set the stage for a clash in their MTN FA Cup round of 16 against Elmina Sharks this Sunday at the Accra Stadium.

Runaway leaders Asante Kotoko guarded against their recent invincibility by drawing 0-0 against Heart of Lions at the Kpando Park.
