Arsenal Demand GH¢20,000 • From Alex Asamoah's Transfer Money

The transfer of striker Alex Asamoah from Ashantigold to Asante Kotoko has sparked interest from Berekum Arsenal who are demanding GH¢20,000 (¢200 million) from the GH¢50,000 (¢500 million) transfer of the player.

The amount forms 40 per cent of the the transfer price of the player who is expected to add to Kotoko's striking options in challenges in the coming season.

By a letter dated November 10, 2008 and signed by Kwame Ntow-Fiako, Accra representative of Arsenal and solicitor for Arsenal, the club referred Ashantigold to an existing contract reached between the two clubs when Asamoah was trancfered from Arsenal to Ashantigold in 2005.

“I wish to inform you that pursuant to the provisions of paragraph 2 of the said release letter, Berekum Arsenal FC are entitled to the sum of GH¢20,000 being their 40 per cent share of the transfer fee you have received from Kumasi Asante Kotoko in respect of the transfer of the player Alex Asamoah.

“The essence of this letter is to formally demand on behalf of Berekum Arsenal an amount of GH¢20,000 being Berekum Arsenal's share of the GH¢50,000 transfer fee paid to you by Kotoko,” the letter said.

That release letter dated November 30, 2005 and signed by former secretary of Arsenal, Takyi Arhin, said should the player be transfered to another club within the country, Arsenal would be entitled to 40 per cent of the transfer fee.
