Supporter urges Anday Sam to resign

Obuasi, May 31, GNA - Captain Anday Sam (Rtd) has been urged to resign honourably as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of AshantiGold Sporting Club following what is termed the deteriorating performance of the Club over the last three soccer seasons.

The call was contained in a letter dated May 28 and issued by Mr Kwaku Kwarteng, one time National Executive member of the Club's Supporters Union and addressed to the Chief Executive.

The letter was also copied to Dr Sam Jonah, the President of AngloGold Ashanti and the 'Supporter-hene' of the Club, Mr Dan Owiredu, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Club and the National Supporters Chairman, Mr Bonya Mensah.

The letter stated, "I, like many other people have observed with deep worry the ever deteriorating performance of Ashgold Sporting Club over the past three soccer seasons. While I trust that you have been doing your maximum for the Club, I note that you have simply been unable to deliver".

Mr Kwarteng said Captain Sam's performance over the past years was not enough to produce the desired and expected results that the supporters are yearning for.

"It is evident your maximum is not enough to produce the desperately needed results", the letter stressed.

The letter, with the heading "Deteriorating performance of AshGold Sporting Club", added that it was equally disturbing that the relationship between "you and other important sections of the Club as well as the broad supporters body" has been marred of late. Mr Kwarteng who claimed he was the former Chairman of KNUST branch of AshGold Supporters Union, observed that it was due to the marred relationship that Captain Sam had often been guarded out of the Len Clay Stadium before the close of the Club's home matches.

"Obviously your position as Chief Executive of the Club has become untenable and it is for these reasons that I respectfully appeal to you to resign from your post", the letter stated.

Mr Kwarteng was hopeful that Captain Sam's resignation would pave the way for a new Chief Executive to provide a new direction for the Club and thereby rescue it from its current poor showing. AshGold are currently credited with seven points in the GT Premier League having played seven matches won two, drew one and lost four matches including a home match against Kumasi King Faisal.

In their last home match, the security agencies had to escort Captain Sam out of the stadium before the end of the match to save him against the wrath of the irate fans. The match ended 3-1 in favour of King Faisal.
