Professor Ebenezer Oduro Owusu Vice Chancellor of the University Of Ghana, Legon has advised students to be interested in sports while they attach seriousness to their education.

Speaking at the launch of the 16- club University of Ghana Football League which is to be organized with support of the Ghana Football Association, he announced that the University is opening a Department for Physical Education and Sports for people interested in studying about sports and related subjects.

He stressed on the need for continuous capacity building for every individual and revealed that the University Sports Stadium will be completed soon, with well grassed training pitches and offered to the GFA for usage by the national teams.

Kwesi Nyantekyi who was special guest for the launch following his election to the FIFA Executive Council promised the GFA’s desire to technically support other institutions to develop and promote football.

He was elated for the GFA to be associated with the fifth league competition and promised to extend the knowledge and experience of coaches and referees to the University as well as attract corporate sponsorship for the League.

Professor Samuel Kwame Ofei, Pro Vice Chancellor of the University of Ghana said the management of the University knows the benefits of sports and encouraged total participation. He noted that the University has a policy on admission of students who are gifted with sporting talent.

Dr. Bella Bello Bitugu, Head of the Sports Directorate of the University of Ghana thanked the GFA for their promise and support. He hinted that the whole community of Legon and surrounding area will benefit after the completion of the Legon University Stadium.

He thanked the media for their support of University sporting activities and appealed to them to partner the League and be part of the promotion. The Football Leagues kicks off on October 12, 2016.
