The current crop of Ghanaian players are 'a pack of lazy guys' who are not 'physically fit' according to former Black Stars player, Malik Jabir.

Malik Jabir, who made his name as a star player for Asante Kotoko and the Black Stars between 1966 and 1977, but missed out on a place in the 1978 Afcon squad for personal reasons, reckons players of this generation are 'lazy', hence lack fitness.

Comparing his days and now, Mr. Jabir said:
'The main difference lies in training. We used to do double sessions of 2 hours each, every day. And if you missed one day, you were kicked out of the team," Malik Jabir said in an interview with Kumasi-based Ultimate FM.

He added that, the current generation of players lack mentors.

'Unfortunately, they have not seen the way we did things and don't have any role models. The senior ones among them are lazy, and what you end up with is a pack of lazy guys."

The technical director of Asante Kotoko also whined about the lack of strength for the modern day Ghanaian footballer. He blamed it on their diet.

'They are physically not fit and I think because they don't eat the right food. They are not strong,' Jabir concluded.

Malik Jabir won the CAF Champions League with Asante Kotoko in 1970.
