Revealed: Mourinho was upset when Madrid players snubbed Essien’s birthday

Portuguese trainer Jose Mourinho, was furious with Real Madrid players for snubbing Michael Essien’s 30th birthday bash during his time in Spain.

This has been revealed in one of the most explosive autobiography yet in the football World dubbed: “Up Close And Personal’, which is being serialized in the Daily Mail.

Mourinho, who was the coach of Real Madrid signed Essien on loan from Chelsea, mainly due to their fantastic working relationship during his time with the Blues.

Apparently, most of the super star players never gelled with the Ghanaian, and Mourinho was left enraged by their decision to turn down the opportunity to celebrate with the Ghana international.

Rob Beasley wrote: “He said it was a political club full of warring factions and told me a story to illustrate the point perfectly.

“It had been Real midfielder Michael Essien’s 30th birthday party and the on-loan Chelsea star had invited all his Madrid colleagues to his bash. Only a handful turned up and it was left to Mourinho to console his upset player.

“He told Essien it was nothing personal; it was not even that his team-mates did not like him and, sadly, it was not because they had anything better to do. Mourinho said it was simply because they were more interested in themselves and not others.”
