Sports News Daniel Amarteys form a needed headache for Ghana coach Avram Grant
SEP 26, 2016 LISTEN

Ghana's head coach Avram Grant has work on his hands as Leicester City's in-form midfielder Daniel Amartey is knocking for a starting place in the Black Stars.

The former FC Copenhagen defender is in the form of his life and has commanded the midfield of Leicester City in the last four games both on the domestic and continental stage.

Amartey who was originally the preferred central defender for Avram Grant lost his position after picking up an injury in the game against South Africa during the AFCON.

In a show of mental strength Amartey has ceased the holding midfield position of the English Champions and his form is hard to ignore.

In the weekend's 4-1 defeat to Manchester United the Ghanaian was one of the few players to emerge with his credibility intact after a strong second half display that stopped the rot.

The English Premier League is seen by many as the most competitive league and a good showing week in week out all but gives a player the chance to start at his national team especially when some of the players are not so consistent at club level.

Versatility is always an asset for any player and the 22-year-old former Inter Allies man has shown he is malleable and can adapt to any situation.

In the past few weeks Daniel has shown incredible desire and has gone from just a squad player to one of the first names on Claudio Ranieri's team sheet for the big games.

Ghana will begin a journey to Russia 2018 World Cup against the Cranes of Uganda and also keep an on eye on the Africa Cup of Nations to be staged in Gabon in Less than four months.

His form will come as a boost to Grant who has had to deal with the latest blow of losing Juventus midfielder Kwadwo Asamoah who was primed for a return to National team football for the first time in almost two years.

Footballers always want to play and Amartey will not be different but how Avram Grant will deal with the situation will tell us how good and well prepared he is to lead Ghana to glory in Gabon.
