Ghanaian midfielder Alhassan Wakaso scored his first league goal of the season for Rio Ave in their 2-1 defeat to Pacos de Ferreira on Sunday evening.

The 24-year-old FC Porto target was handed a starting role in midfield by Coach Nuno Capucho and he proved his prowess on the 81st minute.

Pacos de Ferreira had taken the lead through Mateus Silva on the 16th minute with Alhassan's fellow Ghanaian Osei Barnes adding a second shortly for the home side.

However the high flying Rio Ave put up a strong display in the second half and Alhassan gave them a deserved goal with nine minutes to go.

There were chances for both sides to try and make things happen but good goalkeeping and wastefulness meant they both settled for a 2-1 score-line with Rio Ave suffering their second defeat of the season.

The defeat means Rio Ave have now dropped to 5th on the league table with ten points after six games in the league.
