Accra, Aug. 15, GNA - The former Chairman of the Ghana Athletics Association (GAA) George Lutterodt says he remains confident that Youth Olympics Gold medalist Martha Bissah would excel and make Ghana proud despite the challenges she went through.

Bissah has not represented Ghana at any competition after winning the gold medal in 2014 in Nanjing, China, when she was slapped with an indefinite suspension some few months later by the GAA for misbehavior.

However, in a latest development, the former GAA Chairman has secured a full scholarship at the Norfolk State University in Virginia, USA worth USD 320, 000 annually for Martha, which includes accommodation, tuition fees and feeding.

Mr. Lutterodt said he believes Martha still has the qualities to be a World Champion, adding that, the University has noted her talent as a potential World Champion material and are poised to aid the athlete achieve that feat.

He told the GNA Sports that ''Martha will make herself proud. She has not been able to run for Ghana for the past two years because of all these wrong perceptions that she's disrespectful and moving with the wrong people, which affected her performance but i believe in a year or two, we will see a new Martha.''

According to Lutterodt, the GAA nearly ruined the athlete's career with the indefinite suspension and poor treatment, 'Martha has suffered a lot and now they want to talk about her welfare, two years after winning the medal. It sounds pretty odd to me.'

'She has gone through a lot. They nearly ruined her career by treating the athlete's case poorly and slapping her with an indefinite suspension, preventing her from competing.'

Bissah is set to travel to the USA soon to revive her athletics career. GNA
