League Report Greater Accra Division Two League Zone III Week 9 review
AUG 13, 2016 LISTEN

In a shocking and unforeseen twist Newtown Youth was the only home side to win on match day 9 of the the 2016 Greater Accra Regional Division Two Zone 3 League.

Consequently it was an extremely depressing day for the rest of the home teams as they recored 4 losses and 2 draws.

Playing at home is supposed to give teams an overwhelming advantage and all but assure them of victory, but as match day 9 proved this is not always the case.

No one knows for sure what went wrong and it's a mystery that has yet to be solved.

What we do know however is that the visiting sides put forth an unbelievably powerful statement and made it crystal clear that home wins should never be taken for granted.

Accra Youth and Auroras FC were the 2 highest profile teams to be denied 3 points at home.

Accra Youth, who are still recovering from the shock of their first defeat, went up against a very talented FCM Maamobi side, so perhaps it is pardonable that they could only manage a draw.

However Auroras' home draw is anything but excusable. Their fans must be absolutely perplexed as to what is happening with their club this season as the young Phobians have now gone 3 home matches without a win or a single goal.

But rather than continuing to focus on the glaring misfortunes of the hosts, I want to turn everyone's attention to the remarkable performances turned in by the traveling teams.

Lenient FC and Golden Boys led the way with respective 2-nil victories and their performances were nothing short of excellent.

Dynasty followed nicely in their footsteps and looked superb in their 1 goal triumph over Dawtex, but the most exciting contest of the day was Emmanuel's 2-1 success over Desert Warriors.

It was actually the only match where both sides scored and the cagy affair went down to the wire before Emmanuel was finally able to seal the game off with a second goal.

The results created far less shuffling in the table compared to recent weeks and there were only a few changes.

The top 5 spots remain completely untouched with Emmanuel still in 1st, Accra Youth in 2nd, Golden Boys in 3rd, Dynasty in 4th, and Newtown Youth in 5th.

Lenient's victory has launched them up to 6th from 8th while draws have dropped FCM Maamobi and Auroras down 1 spot each to 7th and 8th.

Great Farcos and Zein continue their dance in the lower middle of the table as Farcos move up 1 to 9th and Zein move down 1 to 10th.

The bottom 4 remain intact and etched in stone with Desert Warriors occupying 11th, Westland in 12th, Dawtex in 13th, and Powerlines yet again in 14th.

Match Day 9 Results
Dawtex FC 0-1 Dynasty FC
Powerlines FC 0-2 Lenient FC
Newtown Youth FC 1-0 Zein FC
Auroras FC 0-0 Great Farcos FC
Westland FC 0-2 Golden Boys FC
