AUG 8, 2016 LISTEN

Ghanaian player Jordan Ayew played his first game for Aston Villa in the English Championship on Sunday.

The Black Stars forward did not have a great end to the game as his team were handed a 1-0 defeat against Sheffield Wednesday away from home in the first game of the season.

The former FC Lorient striker spoke to Aston Villa after the Championship defeat saying his team deserved a point in the game.

Jordan also sees positive signs in the Aston Villa team and needs time to get along playing with Ross McCormack. On Sheffield Wednesday defeat

'We feel a little bit hard done by. We were unlucky. The first half was very difficult, we all know that. I think we did very well in the second half. We deserved at least a point. We had chances but we couldn't score. We almost went home with a point.' On the positive signs

'We spoke to each other at half-time about how to improve and the need to play with confidence. I think everyone saw in the second half there was an improvement. There were positive signs. If we keep playing the way we did in the second half in the future then I'm sure we'll win games.' On playing alongside Ross McCormack for the first time

'I thought Ross had a really good game. He put in a very good performance. We need time to gel. He only arrived a few days ago but we all enjoyed playing alongside him.  We need a little bit of time together.' On the importance of the EFL Cup game at Luton Town on Wednesday

'We just have to win. We know we're the favourites and they're the underdogs. It's important to be wary of their threat, they'll be really up for the game. A good run in the cup is our main aim.

'Winning brings confidence and will only help us going into our next two home games against Rotherham and Huddersfield Town.'

Jordan Ayew has been linked with a transfer move away from Aston Villa but the club insists the Ghanaian player will be staying.
