Baba Rahman rejected offers from AS Roma, Bundesliga duo Leipzig and Hoffenheim and West Brom to join Schalke 04 on loan.
The left back completed his season-long loan move to the Veltins Arena at the weekend and has returned to the Bundesliga where he cut his teeth.
Rahman has reunited with his former coach at Augsburg Markus Weinzierl now in-charge of the Royal Blues.
Executive Chairman of Rahman's former club Dreams FC Kurt, E.S Okraku explained the reason behind the switch.
"Baba prefers to play in front of a 60,000 packed capacity arena every week, hence the decision to opt for Schalke among all the others," he said.
"We told Schalke and of course they were very interested in the move."
The Ghana international moved to Chelsea last summer on a five-year contract and managed 23 appearances in all competitions.
But he is not guaranteed game time under new boss Antonio Conte.
