Ghana FA mourns Premier League referee's death; clubs to observe minute silence

The Ghana Football Association is mourning the death of promising Premier League referee Emmanuel Offei.

Offei was involved in car accident on Tuesday at Adukrom, a town near Koforidua.

Before Wednesday's Ghana Premier League, a minute silence will be observed at all league centres.

A statement read: "It was with profound regret that the Ghana Football Association (GFA) learnt of the tragic death of referee Emmanuel Ofei on Tuesday July 26.

"The Premier League referee reportedly died after sustaining injuries in a motor accident in Adukrom in the Eastern Region.

"Whiles we await full details of the incident, the thoughts and prayers of the entire GFA membership are with the bereaved family and loved ones at this sad time.

"Referee Ofei who officiated the Match day 19 game between Ashantigold and Inter Allies, was regarded as one of the association's promising referees who are selected the 2017 FIFA referees course.

"The GFA and the entire Ghana football family will sorely miss him.May his gentle soul rest in peace.

"Meanwhile the GFA has asked for one minute silence to be observed in honor of the late Referee Ofei at all Premier League match venues in today's midweek games."
