Hooliganism appears part of the lower division game in Ghana with reports of indecent and violent acts reported every week as visiting teams are always exposed to brutalities.

The latest to have suffered such a fate is Goaso-based Unity FC who were reported to have suffered serious beatings after their 2-1 loss to Mpuasuman at Japekrom.

Speaking to Ghanasoccernet.com on the violent happenings in the Division One League, Unity FC goalie Lukman Sheriff reveals he was shocked security personnel were watching on as the home team brutalised them receiving more than ten slaps in the process.

"I was surprised the police were looking on. The home team showed signs of beating us even while the game was ongoing. But we were not much scared because there were a lot of policemen around with two soldiers," he said.

"We exhausted the 90 minutes but the referee refused to end the game because while the game was heading for a draw, a macho man walked to the referee telling him that if he doesn't award them a penalty, they will beat him.

"I was close to them at that time so I heard what he said."

"The referee awarded the penalty and they scored before he ended the game."

"But sadly, the supporters jumped onto us after the game and started beating us. They slapped me countlessly for denying them goals when I was in post.

"And the police were looking on. I was shocked. When I reported to one of them he told me I was delaying when the game was ongoing. I lost confidence suddenly. I was really saddened by the comment of the policemen.

"It took the intervention of the Mpuasuman team officials for the fans to stop beating us after we had received the slaps for close to 30 minutes," he narrated.

The Ghana Football Association have suspended many clubs from using their home venues for attacking their opponents during matches but the acts of hooliganism keeps increasing.
