As part of its 40th anniversary programme line up, the National Trust Holding Company (NTHC) has kick-started its staff wellness campaign with a health walk in Accra. The 7.41 kilometer walk through some principal streets of the capital was followed by an aerobics session and a health screening by SIC Health Services Bob Freeman Hospital.

More than 200 staff members and their families were screened for blood sugar, cholesterol, blood pressure, body mass index and waist to hip Ratio. Participants were also taken through some basic health counseling. At the end, 98% were given a clean bill of health by the medical team.

The walk brought together staff of the company from all 10 branches in Accra to participate in the walk and enjoy camaraderie in the process.

The wellness campaign which aims to encourage NTHC staff to make lifestyle changes that improve the quality of their health is made up of a series of activities which will run throughout the remainder of the year.

'With the increase in lifestyle diseases among corporate workers, NTHC is embarking on this campaign to nudge our staff into making the right health choices. As investment advisors we understand that health is an important area to invest in. And so we hope to realize a healthier body of staff which will of course translate into a more effective output' said Acting Managing Director, Francis Apanka.

Some of the activities lined up in the campaign include; beginning big group meetings with some physical activities such as squats and jumping jacks, making it a policy to serve healthy foods when hosting meetings, measure the distances in hall ways  and around the building  to help employees set walking goals, and so on.

NTHC recently launched its 40th anniversary and has lined up a youth literacy program targeting second cycle and tertiary institutions. The program is expected to reach more than half a million students this year, to encourage the young Ghanaian to cultivate the habit of good financial choices and planning. Other areas the company will focus on include the informal pensions sector and the expansion of their presence in the Upper East and Upper West Regions.

The NTHC wellness campaign has kicked-off an exciting year that promises healthier options and better lifestyle opportunities to its staff.
