League Report Michael Osei: Funny: Kotoko coach shed tears instead of getting job done
JUL 23, 2016 LISTEN

Michael Osei is a fine coach, but he shouldn't let his emotions get the better part of him when he finds it very difficult to get answers to situations.

On Wednesday Asante Kotoko suffered one of their heaviest defeats in recent times when Ebusua Dwarfs hammered them 4-1 at the Cape Coast Sports Stadium.

Instead of Michael Osei thinking of how to re-strategize and counter the play of Dwarfs, he was rather seen on the technical bench weeping as if he had lost a family member.

He did the same thing when New Edubiase edged Kotoko 0-1 in Kumasi under his care on match day 9. He was pardoned, but it seems it is becoming a regular thing that whenever his side is beaten or shocked he ought to weep.

Osei's former boss at New Edubiase United, Abdul Salam Yakubu, even confirmed that the caretaker coach of Kotoko used to weep in times of defeats during his role as the assistant coach of the Edubiase club.

Big coaches, the world over have their bad moments and I quite remember that one of te most successful coaches in European football Carlo Ancelotti had his AC Milan side throw away a 3-0 lead to Liverpool in the second half in the final of the most prestigious European club football in 2005. The Italian tactician never shed tears, because he knew his time would come another day and fortunately for him they avenged that defeat against Liverpool coached by the same trainer who plotted the heroic comeback in 2005, but in 2007 AC Milan had their turn.

Also, Didier Deschamps, after guiding a flamboyant French side to the final of the UEFA European Championship on home soil against an uninspiring Portuguese side, got stunned, but he was the one who was seen comforting his players not the other way round.

A coach should be the go to man when the going becomes tough, for players to draw their motivation from him. When a king runs from the battlefield his subjects are left with no other option than to surrender.

Had Michael Osei concentrated on the game, he could have come out with a new ideas to counter the strategy of his opposing coach Prosper Nartey. However, he was thinking of what the fans and the management would would should the score line stay like that and it reached a point that he couldn't hold on to his tears.

I think the tears he was shedding contributed to the  failure of Asante Kotoko to stage a comeback. No wonder, the coach of Ebusua Dwarfs said that they reduced Kotoko into an ordinary side.

'Kotoko is Kotoko because what they did was those days not now, it is about playing on the field, so I told them [Dwarfs players] that Kotoko is Kotoko because of what they did several years ago but we are in 2016, and it is about football,' Narteh said.

'I told them to have confidence, and they can beat Kotoko, and we have beaten them hands down, from 0 minutes to the 90th minute we were on top of the game.

'We played a very strong Kotoko side they were tactically discipline because I have watched their clip so I was able to map up a tactical plan against them that is why we reduced them to an ordinary side.'

I believe they had no coach to think for the way out of the troubles they were going through.

He should ask the likes of Arsene Wenger, Sir Alex Ferguson, Jose  Mourinho, etc, the number of defeats and shocks they have had in their coaching career. Their tears would be like river Mississippi, should they have chosen to weep, following every single defeat.

Michael Osei should get the job done and stop behaving like a baby, who wants the sympathy of another person after he/she had been beaten by the parents for wrong doing. There are more battles and mountains ahead for him to fight and climb, so he needs to strengthen himself and put it at the back of his minds that the game is not for weak persons.
