CAF reach an agreement with Total to sponsor African Football

Accra, July 21, GNA - The Confederation of African Football (CAF) and Total, Africa's number one major oil company, have reached an agreement today in France to become the official sponsor of African Football in the next eight years.

The agreement, would see Total supporting CAF's 10 principal competitions, starting with the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), which has now been renamed the Total Africa Cup of Nations, to be held in Gabon from 14th January, 2017 to 5th February, 2017.

According to the President of CAF, Mr. Issa Hayatou, 'this partnership is a major milestone in our search for additional resources to accelerate African football's development, bring its governance up to date, upgrade its sports infrastructure and advance its performance globally.'

'As a leading multinational in its field, with strong ties to Africa, Total, will make a significant contribution to CAF's initiatives to foster personal and professional growth for young Africans," he added.

Commenting on the agreement, the President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Total, Patrick Pouyanne, said 'through this commitment, we hope to strengthen ties to our stakeholders and customers through exciting, celebratory events that are always popular, including within our own teams.'

'We are delighted to partner with CAF, because Africa is part of totals makeup' he stated.

Total, a company that has strong roots in Africa, with operations in more than 40 countries and a major contributor to the continents economy, is going to be the sponsor of 10 CAF competitions and will be seen at more than 1,500 matches during the Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon), the African Nations Championship (CHAN), the CAF Inter-Club Competitions (CAF Champions League, CAF Confederation Cup and CAF Super Cup), the Youth Competitions ( U-17, U-20 and U-23 Cup of Nations), the Women Africa Cup of Nations and the Futsal Africa Cup of Nations.

Total has a work force of over 10,000 in all of its African countries it operates from in its gas production and processing units, with over 2 million customers who stop by a day for its services in their various service stations.
