Ghana’s Chef De Mission hopeful of raising enough funds for Ghana’s Olympic participation

Ghana has qualified 16 athletes for this year's Olympic Games in Rio. This is the highest number Ghana is presenting at the games since the last three editions.

Now funds to participate well at the games have become a major issue for the Ghana Olympic Committee and the Sports Ministry.

With less than three weeks to the games- the Sports Ministry have not allocated funds to the GOC but Ghana's Chef de Mission, Chris Essilfie, is hopeful of raising the needed funds for Ghana's participation

“What it has to take between now and the time, if the will is to make that money it wont be difficult anyway. We only have, we initially presented a budget close to 800 thousand dollars. That is when we were looking at 25 athletes at a time. But this 16 now we obviously scaled down,” Essilfie said.

“I can’t put out my head on a figure. But it’s improper anyway. Some things are constant and some are variables. Any sports you want to watch you should bring the 800 thousand dollars. I am very hopeful.”

The multi sport event will begin in 16 days.
