Deputy Black Stars captain Andre Ayew says he is not in a rush to become the substantive captain of the West African giants.

The Swansea City star has been tipped as the potential Black Stars captain in the near future but he insists he is not in a haste.

Many have argued that Ayew be given the captaincy following the persistent injuries of substantive captain Asamoah Gyan.

But the World Cup winner has played down the calls adding that is not his focus.

'I'm not in a hurry to become Black Stars captain. I'm the deputy and have always supported,' he told Starr FM.

'For me the most important thing is to help the team not the captaincy.'

Ayew led Ghana to become the first African country to win the U20 FIFA World Youth Championship for the first time in 2009.
