JUL 7, 2016 LISTEN

The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has cut power supply at the Accra Sports Stadium due to huge sums of unpaid bills.

As part of the company's exercise to disconnect all clients who owe electricity bills, Public Realations Officer (PRO) of the National Sports Authority Frederica Mensah-Davies confirmed the Accra Sports Stadium has been affected.

The Accra Sports Stadium owed the Electricity Company of Ghana GHS 240, 000 in unpaid bills for the year 2015.

The company made a payment plan package of GHS 24,000 for the National Sports Authority to clear the debt.

Despite the National Sports Authority paying their sum for the month, ECG disconnected and have asked them to pay additional sums to be reconnected.

PRO Frederica Mensah-Davies confirmed to Graphic Online saying:

"We are not the only ones who are owing, we have payed our sum for this month as part of the agreement but they (ECG) have asked us to pay a bit more for them to reconnect us.

"We are hopeful that we will be able to raise the sum required by close of day to restore the power."

The new Cape Coast Stadium was also disconnected by the Electricity Company of Ghana a few weeks ago.
