Former Black Stars skipper Stephen Appiah has urged fans of the national team to rekindle their support ahead of the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifiers later this year.

Ghana will attempt to get to another World Cup and they are in Group E with Egypt, Uganda and Congo Brazzaville. However, following events in the last World Cup in Brazil, fans have not been as enthusiastic in relation to the Black Stars as they were in the past. Appiah recognises this but he is appealing to fans to still get behind the team for the 2018 World Cup qualifiers.

'All the things we are seeing is all because of what happened in Brazil. But Ghanaians know that the team is very good.

The only issue now is attendance. It is not like what used to enjoy. We need to put everything aside. The Black Stars is the only senior male team that we have and so, we have to move on and support the Black Stars.'

The former Udinese and Juventus midfielder believes that Ghana will get the ticket to Russia ahead of Egypt.

'Every group in the qualifiers is a tough one because every one country wants to make it to the World Cup. Like we have seen in the Euros, smaller nations have become better.

But knowing the Black Stars, I am certain that they will make it to the World Cup.'
