Sports News Today in history: Asamoah Gyan becomes Africa's top scorer in World
JUN 26, 2016 LISTEN

Exactly two years today, Asamoah Gyan scored against Portugal in Brasilia in the 2014 FIFA World Cup to become Africa's all-time top scorer in the history of the mundial

The striker scored with a header in the 57th minute on Thursday, despite Ghana losing in the end by two goals to one to take his total record to six World Cup goals, overtaking the record of five set by Cameroon's Roger Milla.

But the Al Ain forward's goals were not enough to prevent the Black Stars elimination from the tournament in Brazil.

Ghana, who earlier sent home midfielders Sulley Muntari and Kevin-Prince Boateng for disciplinary reasons, needed to beat Portugal but lost following a late winner from Cristiano Ronaldo.
