GWF organizes seminar for Sports Journalists

Accra, June 24, GNA - The Ghana Weightlifting Federation (GWF) in collaboration with Phoenix Life Assurance has organized its first ever Weightlifting seminar for selected Sports Journalist at the Accra Sports Stadium on Friday.

The programme themed 'The impact of Ghana Sports Journalists on sports development in Ghana' saw about 100 sports journalists participating and were awarded with certificates at the one day event.

According to the GWF, the event forms part of efforts to develop the discipline and also to improve the skills of Journalists with the right terminologies in their reportage of the sport.

The event was graced with the presence of the Minister of Youth and Sports, Hon. Nii Lartey Vanderpuye, with the President of the GWF Mr. Ben Nunoo Mensah and Dr. Kwaku Ofosu Asare being the resource persons.

Dr Ofosu-Asare, a lecturer at the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration explained the importance of Sports and how Sports Journalists can develop themselves.

'Media and sports are inseparable. You must know your style and go by the ethics and also take advantage of what we have and make good use of it to develop sports even in the remotest areas' He said.

He further advised journalist to be objective in their reportage and urged employers to pay their employees well.

Mr. Lantey Vanderpuye called on the other sporting Associations to emulate the initiate and encouraged the gathering to be committed to developing sports in the country. ''I'm happy with this initiative, which will enrich the knowledge base of journalists. Sports is a discipline and one needs to understand what it entails.

'Every sport has its own rules and terminologies and Journalists need to be abreast with the sport and be a master of it. The seminar will be very beneficial to sports journalists and also help them in getting familiar with weightlifting. It is a novelty to educate sports journalists in the sport.'' He noted

The President of the Federation Nunoo- Mensah, who talked about sports branding in Ghana, expressed his excitement about the success of the event and the impressive turn-out.
