Accra, June 24, GNA - Blue Crest University College and Viva Top Chocolate Drink have expressed their delight to sponsor the 2nd National road baton relay slated for 1st July, 2016.

The national road baton relay, which has more than 100 schools registering, is the first of its kind in Africa.

One of the major sponsors, Bluecrest University College, which was conceived in 1999 as the front runner in IT Education and Training with the core objective of addressing the IT needs of Ghana, has tied up with Dreamland Sports Plus to make young Ghanaian athletes realize their dreams of combining education with sports.

The country Director for Blue Crest University College, Vivek K. Verma said they are happy to be associated with such a laudable idea of blending education with sports.

'We at Blue Crest have decided to give a fully paid scholarship package for an undergraduate programme to both winners of the male and female categories.'

Viva top chocolate drink, distributed by cave and gardens, are the official drink sponsors and have also expressed their delight to be part of a great idea aimed at unearthing talents for the country.

According to Rajan Singh, the Sales and Marketing Manager for viva top chocolate, 'we have taken it upon ourselves to make sure every athlete is well refreshed before, during and after the event, with our range of products, which includes viva top chocolate drinks and X-Tiger energy drink.'

The road baton relay, which will start from the Baatsona total and end at the Accra sports stadium, has seen over 100 schools registering from all the 10 regions with 800 athletes competing in both the male and female categories, with each participant taking home four cartons of viva chocolate drink.

According to the organizers, Dreamland Sports Plus, the Upper East, Upper West, Northern and Brong Ahafo Regions, are coming with four schools each, with eight athletes per team and a total of 32 athletes respectively.

Volta and Western regions have eight schools each with eight athletes per team and 64 athletes each.

A total of 10 schools each with eight athletes per team and 80 athletes are coming from the Central and Western Regions.

Greater Accra and Ashanti are coming with the greater number of schools, with 33 and 15 respectively, with eight athletes per team and a total of 264 and 120 athletes respectively.

The Chief Executive Officer of Dreamland Sports Plus, Mr. Emmanuel Ola William, said the event will be extended to other nearby African countries in the near future to make it an all-African event.
