Accra, June 24, GNA - The Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) in collaboration with the International Cycling Federation (ICF) is organising a seven day 'level 1 technical course' for coaches of the Ghana Cycling Federation (GCF).

The training, which ends on June 30 at the Accra Sports stadium, aims at upgrading the knowledge of cycling trainers in the country. This is the first of its kind organised in the country.

Twenty participants from various cycling clubs across the country, including para-cyclist Alem Mumuni and two other females cyclist are taking part.

Ghana has only three coaches with the 'level 1' qualification and one coach with 'level 2'.

Speaking at the launch of the training programme, the president of the GCF, Mr. Mohammed Sahnoon said the course forms part of measures to improve the quality of cyclist in the country.

'This is a good thing to happen to Ghana Cycling. We hope that we see the impact of this training with the local clubs,' Mr. Sahnoon said.

The A UCI technical instructor, Richard Shepherd, who is in charge of the training said this is an international standard batch, which will not be taken for granted.

'There will be a set standard for passing the participants at the end of the programme. If you do not meet the standard you will not be passed to a 'level 1' technical instructor,' Shepherd stressed.
