Accra, Jun 22, GNA - The Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) Sports Personality and Footballer of the Year, Andre Ayew, has been officially introduced to the headline sponsors of the 41st MTN-SWAG awards, at the MTN head office in Accra.

Ayew, the Deputy Captain of the Black Stars beat stars duo of captain Asamoah Gyan and left back Harrison Afful to the prestigious award at the just ended 41st MTN SWAG Awards.

Mr. Kwabena Yeboah, President of SWAG thanked the headline sponsors for making the awards a successful one and helping to celebrate deserving athletes in the various sporting disciplines.

"We are here to officially introduce our Sports Personality of the Year to you. Andre had an assignment so he could not be part of the ceremony at the State Banquet House and we are most privileged to have him here to interact not just with us but our sponsors as well."

The Corporate Services Executive of MTN, Mrs Cynthia Lumor, said 'sports is important to Ghanaians and it brings us together. Ayew is an epitome of what MTN represents, it takes dedication and fortitude to get to where Ayew is and that represents MTN.'

Mrs. Lumor further assured Ghanaians saying 'MTN will continue to focus on what Ghanaians want us to focus on, that is sports and music, and we will continue to do that' she noted.

Ayew expressed his delight and appreciation to SWAG and the sponsors for their contribution to sports in Ghana saying 'I will like to thank SWAG and the sponsors for recognising athletes in the country, I am honoured and proud today to receive two important awards in the country.'

In attendance at the short ceremony were, representative from Activa Insurance, MTN Ghana, SWAG Executives, General Secretary of Professional Footballers Association of Ghana, Anthony Baffoe and representative from Ghana football association (GFA).

The visit also afforded the stars deputy captain the opportunity to interact with the media.
