Black Stars and Anzhi Makhachkala defender Jonathan Mensah has hailed David Duncan's impact in his footballing career, describing the former as a 'Messiah.'

Mensah was nurtured by Duncan in 2007 when he was coaching Ashanti Gold and also coached him at South African side Free State Stars.

Since then the 25-year-old guardsman has moved on to become one of the best players in Black Stars since making his debut seven years ago.

'Coach David Duncan is my Messiah on earth because it was through him I have become one of the best players in Ghana,' Mensah told Hot FM.

'He gave me the opportunity to play my first game for Ashanti Gold which was in 2007 against Asante Kotoko and we won 1-0 in Berekum. Since then I became an integral part in his team I'm grateful to him.

'He took me to South Africa when he joined Free State Stars so he is a coach who has played a big role in my career,' he added

Mensah has capped 36 times and scored one goal in the process. In 2009 he was part of Ghana's U-20 team that won the world cup in Egypt.
