Accra, Jun 20, GNA - The chairman of Citizens International Hockey Club, Dr. K.D. Asante, has said that the Citizens Club, is seeking to revive the game of hockey in the Junior and Senior High Schools in the country.

Dr. Asante who was speaking to GNA Sports over the weekend at the Clubs 30th anniversary tournament for second cycle schools, noted that hockey as a sport in the schools has declined and must be revived.

'Hockey is gradually dying from our junior high and senior high schools and we have taken it upon ourselves as a club to help revive it.'

According to him, hockey has helped a great number of the citizen club members and they must also return that help to the younger ones, "we want to help these young ones to achieve their aims in life by using hockey as a platform to achieve that. This will give them the necessary exposure and the mentorship they will need in choosing their various professions in life, he noted.

Dr. Asante, in thanking the late Mrs. Theodosia Okoh and Dr. Emmanuel Evans-Anfom when both were honoured said 'hockey development could not be talked about without the mention of Mrs Okoh and Dr. Anfom, 'they have helped the game in Ghana to reach this point and we thought it a great deal to honour them at the club's 30th anniversary.'

Citizens International Club celebrated its 30th anniversary over the weekend at the Theodosia Okoh Hockey pitch in Accra, with an inter-schools hockey tournament which was won by Adisadel College and Yaa Asantewa girls school in the male and female category respectively.

The club is seeking to make the Inter-Schools Hockey Tournament, an annual event by bringing more schools on board to help nurture and groom talents for the future.
