Liberty Professionals secured an impressive 1-0 victory against Hearts of Oak at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Young forward Issah Shaibu’s 18th minute strike was the difference, as Kenichi Yatsuhashi men fell to their third defeat at home.

Kenichi Yatsuhashi’s started the game knowing very well that victory will pull them to the summit of the league table.

The Japanese coach kept faith with Samuel Akrugu who has kept post since Soulama Abdoulaye was sent off against Asante Kotoko.

The Phobians started very well with Cosmos Dauda's opportunity to score, but after rounding the goalkeeper, the angle was too acute to find the back of the post.

That miss will prove costly as Issah Mohammed got the only goal of the game to put Liberty ahead in the 18th minute.

The goal surprisingly brought the best out of the away side, who went on to dominate the first half of the game.

The first half saw some surprising calls from Hearts of Oak coach Kenichi Yatsuhashi, who pulled out Isaac Mensah and Eric Kumi with Paul Acquah and Sarbah Laryea, but that change did little to effect the direction of the game.

Ollenu Ashitey had a perfect opportunity to slip in an equalizer, but his shot was wide and very disappointing on the 69th minute.

Hearts of Oak began to throw men forward in search of an equalizer but that opened the game out for Liberty who looked very dangerous at every attempt.

Liberty Professionals created a lot of chances in the last ten minutes and will be disappointed they failed to add to their tally, in what was a very disappointing Hearts of Oak performance.

The results means Hearts of Oak remain second on the league log, but just two goals behind leaders Wa All Stars.

John Paintsil granted bail

Embattled former Ghana international John Paintsil has been granted bail after spending a day behind bars for allegedly assaulting a Police officer in an extended marriage altercation.

According to Starr News' Ibrahim Alhassan, Paintsil is in the process of completing his bail arrangements to leave the premises of the Nima Police station after he was sent to court Thursday.

It is unclear his bail bond.
The 34-year-old was put in cells around 5pm Tuesday. ASP Tenge said Paintsil had been invited to the police station after his wife filed a complaint that he had stolen her car.

“When both parties were invited by the police for interrogation, we realised John Paintsil was not ready to cooperate and in the course of interrogation became very furious and decided to leave the meeting,” ASP Tenge told Accra-based Citi FM.

“It was at this point that the District Commander instructed that he should be arrested and a statement taken from him. Because he was not satisfied with that he assaulted the district commander. He hit him in the right eye and also pushed the investigator. So it took some few police personnel to get him arrested,” the PRO added.

She said the commander is receiving treatment while investigations continue.

Paintsil’s marriage has hit the rocks over the years, and it will be recalled that in 2013, he was arrested for allegedly stabbing his wife – Richlove – over domestic altercation.
