Mary, Asampong win Celebrity Captain's Prize

Tema, May 24, GNA - Theodore Asampong and Mary Prempeh became the proud winners of this year's Celebrity Golf Club Captain's Prize Championship played at Sakumono, near Tema over the weekend.

Asampong, playing with Handicap 14, returned a net score of 70, beating Tang Bin on the count back rule to win the Men's event, whilst Mary, who played with Handicap 13, netted 67 score to win the Ladies category.

Tang Hong took the third position with 72 net, beating Thompson Komladzei and Samuel Adjepong on count-back, with Janet Stordeve placing second in the Ladies segment with a 71 net, beating Vivian Dicke on count-back.

In the Group 'B' Division, Reverend A. Mensah came first with 68 net, J. Achola placed second with 69 net with Gokeh Sekyim taking the third position with 70 net.

Joyce Aronsen lifted the Ladies category trophy with 68 net, Maureen Akuako took the second position with 69 net with Naomi Addo placing third with 70 net.

The one-day 18-Hole Medal Play, which marked the end of the Captainship of Frank Akwasi Opoku, attracted 150 golfers.

It was jointly sponsored by Old Mutual Life Assurance company Limited, Kenya Airways, Emirates Airlines, Holiday Inn Hotel, Primus Advertising Company and Oak Plaza Hotel.

Frank Akwasi Opoku, Outgoing Captain of the Celebrity Golf Club, thanked the members of the club and the sponsors for their support in developing the game.

He expressed the hope that his successor would continue to enjoy the same support from members and also continue from where he left off.

Mr Sosthenes Konutsey, Head of Corporate Business of Old Mutual Life Assurance Company Limited, gave the assurance that his company would continue supporting the development of the game in the ensuing years.
