Black Stars Captain Asamoah Gyan says he has grown in confidence since he was described as one of the world’s greatest goal scorers by five-time Ballon d’Or winner Lionel Messi.

The Argentine superstar told ‘90 Minutes Extra’ that he enjoyed watching Gyan in Ghana’s 2-2 draw with Germany at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

The former Rennes and Udinese attacker has so far scored six goals in three World Cup competitions. Gyan considers Messi’s commendation as a morale booster.

“I appreciate it. It is a good thing when sometimes you do things wholeheartedly but you might not see somebody watching you. I was even surprise when I heard it. It is great motivation for me for a legend like Messi acknowledging my work.

"I am honoured honestly. It will even boost my confidence to do more as a player that people look up to and I also look up to him. I appreciate”, he told Starr FM Sports.

Gyan will be out for a month and therefore will be missing Ghana’s upcoming international friendly against Guinea as well as the Cup of Nations qualifier against Mozambique.
