Violence raised its ugly head when lower tier side King Solomon hosted former Premiership side Great Olympics in their Zone III league clash at the Kwahu Praso Park over the weekend.

DAILY GUIDE SPORTS probe into the matter indicated that it was the aggrieved fans of King Solomon, who invaded  the field just after the game; destroying the inner parameter and assaulted the center referee Sampson Azuma and other officials  in the process.

The attack resulted in the deep wound on the head of Azuma who has since received medical attention.

It emerged that the irate fans were incensed by the fact that the visitors win had sent them (visitors) to the summit of the division one league. Earlier, the fans had interrupted play on three occasions-throwing bottled and bagged water on to the pitch.

An official who pleaded anonymity said after the game that “This is incivility in the highest order and it must be condemned.

“Must a team win at all costs when playing on home soil? Certainly not, the game is changing and we should get it right, playing home doesn't make you an automatic winner.”

“The appropriate quarters must act with the speed of lightning to bring offenders to book.”

Indications are that the country's football governing body, Ghana Football Association (GFA) disciplinary wing will be sitting on the matter.

It has also emerged that the perpetrators and the club in question are likely to face fines and ban respectively.

Olympics are sitting on the apex of the Zone III, a zone tagged as the hottest with 25 points after 12 games with Solomon languishing at the bottom with just nine points.
