League Report Ghana Premier League: Stephen Appiah tips Hearts of Oak to win the league this season
MAY 24, 2016 LISTEN

Former Black Stars skipper Stephen Appiah is convinced Hearts of Oak will be crowned champions of the Ghana Premier League at the end of the season.

After 13 league matches into the 2015-16 Ghana Premier League season, the Phobians have won seven, lost two and drawn four and they are currently at the summit of the league.

They have played seven matches away from home and are yet to succumb to a defeat. Football connoisseurs are convinced they have the attributes to succeed Ashanti Gold, ruling domestic football after seven barren years.

Appiah, 35, who sold his talent to the world in the early days of his career reckon the current players under the tutelage of head coach Kenichi Yatsuhashi are better than last season and could go all the way to be champions.

He also described Kenichi Yatsushashi as a 'fantastic' coach who has ensured the stamina of the players is at its peak to compete.

'I have noticed the team boasts of unity, teamwork, energy and aggressiveness in their style of play and that is why they are top of the league and if only they can maintain this form I see them win the trophy,' the former Juventus midfielder noted in an interview with Radio Gold.

'They have a fantastic coach [Kenichi Yatsuhashi] who is helping the players improve in terms of their stamina and their fitness as it is always evident in games," he added.

Hearts of Oak will host Liberty Professional at the Accra sports stadium on Thursday.
