King Solomon FC have condemned the "senseless" behaviour of the club's fans for the violent attacks on referee Sampson Azumah after Sunday's Division One League match.

A section of the club's supporters went berserk and attacked the referee after their 1-0 defeat to Great Olympics at home.

They beat up the referee who sustained a head injury and had to be rushed to the hospital where he received stitches in his head.

A statement released on Tuesday morning read: "With shame and humiliation, King Solomon Football Club wishes to apologize for the behaviour and violent conduct of a section of our fans which resulted in the attacks on the match officials during our league game against Great Olympics.

"What has happened is barbaric, absurd, and irrational because the precious life of human being was at stake.

"King Solomon FC accepts responsibility for the fans behaviour and would not shield anyone found to be part of this senseless act. If this uncouth behaviour is replicated elsewhere leading to a loss of life, football will be the biggest loser.

"What happened on Sunday should not be seen as a football issue but rather as a criminal and national security issue.

"We wish to state emphatically that the behaviour of these supporters are not the philosophy of King Solomon FC as we believe in good football, fair play and peaceful atmosphere where everyone is entertained.

"Our preoccupation is the wellbeing of referee and to use this medium to grovel to him, his family, the referee institution and the Ghana Football Association for being the headliners not because of the good we do.

"This act has no place in football and the club is ready and available to co-operate with the appropriate institutions for the culprits to be punished."
