MAY 19, 2016 LISTEN

Muntari Tagoe, skipper of Medeama SC was in sheer elation after helping his side to book their first group stage participation in the CAF Confederation Cup. The Tarkwa based side beat Mamelodi Sundowns 2-0 at the Sekondi stadium on Wednesday to qualify on the away goal rule after losing 3-1 in Pretoria in the first leg of the play-off.

The goalkeeper was proud about the team's progress in their second attempt to qualify. In 2014 the Mauves and Yellow agonizingly lost on penalty shootouts to AC Leopards of DR Congo in front of their home fans after a 2-2 aggregate score.

The fans this time invaded the pitch after the game to mob their players in celebration of the club's progress. Crazy hugs, selfies, sprinkling of water on the players and jubilant chants to show their gratitude to the players for a job well done.

Muntari thanked the fans for their support saying:
"We prayed to God and he has answered us. We worked hard and so heaven help those who help themselves. We thank all Ghanaians for coming to support us and we hope we will make them proud. This is the time we going to take on the big teams in the African continent so they should keep on supporting us and we are going to make them proud. We thank everyone".

He however revealed that the team has a modest ambition of just being a participant in the group stage, as all they wanted to achieve was qualification so they could learn from there to set a higher target in their next attempt.
