Sports News Review Panel recommends six match ban for referee Nsiah and assistant Ayitey
MAY 6, 2016 LISTEN

Referee Alex Nsiah and assistant Shine Ayitey has been banned for six matches after their disgraceful performance in the Bechem United-Wa All Stars league match.

The GFA Match review panel arrived at this decision after a thorough review of the video clip of the Ghana Premier League Match day 8 game.

Nsiah and Ayitey were deemed to have awarded a bad penalty against Wa All Stars in the 7th minute of the first half.

The assistant referee who was closer to the incident leading to the said penalty, waved his flag to attract the attention of the referee who also responded by awarding the penalty.

In another recommendation, the Match Review Panel has cautioned Referee Samuel Gyasi and Assistant Ben Vormawor to keep focus and concentration throughout matches.

This was after the Committee reviewed the Hearts of Oak vs WAFA match on Match day 8 played at the Accra Stadium on April 20, 2016.

The review was to establish whether Hearts was denied a goal in the 73rd minute when the players appealed for a goal.

After a thorough review of the video clip, it became clear that the ball had crossed the goal-line in the air before the WAFA defender cleared it and therefore a goal should have been given to Hearts of Oak.

The Committee was however of the opinion that the incident was very fast and difficult for any referee to detect and to determine whether the ball had crossed the goal-line in this particular incident.
