Ghana Premier League: Aduana Stars end Liberty Professionals' home superiority

2015-16 Ghana Premier League home masters, Liberty Professional suffered their first home defeat of the season as Aduana Stars secured a heart-pumping 3-2 win at Dansoman.

An early goal from Latif Blessing after four minutes put the Scientific Soccer Lads in command, but the excitement of the Liberty fans was cut short by Zakaria Mumuni after 12 minutes.

Ebo Mends regained Liberty the lead deep into seconds half, but goals from Yahaya Mohammed and substitute Derrick Sasraku meant a tense finish, but nothing more.

The two heavyweights in league put on a show of attacking football the fixture warranted with super end-to-end action. Gerald Arkson was the first to test Joseph Addo in the Aduana goal, who was set to have a busy half.

However it was the the Dormaa-based club who came closest in the early exchanges, with Bright Adjei's lob forcing Eric Andoh to stretch high to grab the ball, before Benjamin Eshun sent Latif Blessing on with a splitting pass, and the leading goal scorer of the season made no mistake, beating Joseph Addo from the left edge of the box with a curling ball.

The pendulum swung the way of Aduana from there on though, with Elvis Opoku and Zakaria Mumuni tearing Liberty apart. On the 12 minute, Aduana found the breakthrough, drawing level.

A quick break saw the ball rolled into the path Bright Adjei as he lofted a perfect cross, finding the forehead of Zakaria Mumuni, who sent in a powerful header with the goalkeeper having no chance.

Neither side could score again in the first department of the game.

Liberty flew out of the blocks when they returned. Daniel Kodie forced Joseph Addo to make a powerful save, before Ebo Mends shot wide from the edge of the box.

Liberty were on the front foot, but they suddenly found themselves shoved back off balance after a lightning break.

However, a counter attack initiated by Gerald Arkson who had the game under control with Tamimu Muntari in support ended in a corner kick.

He took responsibility, executing it perfectly, and Ebo Mends was at the right place to nod home Liberty's second on the 65th minute.

While it looked a tall order for the former champions to redress the balance, that prospect disappeared almost entirely when Yahaya Mohammed capitalised on a blunder by the industrious Gerald Arkson and slotted the equaliser with 14 minutes to play.

A rare error by Maxwell Mensah gifted substitute Derrick Sasraku a simple goal and it looked too little too late for Liberty.

Liberty pushed for the equaliser, and it meant Aduana nails were chewed in the stands. But time run out for George Lamptey's boys and Aduana earned their first away win.
