Ghana and Leeds United legend Tony Yeboah has revealed he snubbed European giants Bayern Munich to join Leeds for more money in 1995.

Yeboah joined the Yorkshire club when they were in their pomp in the Premier League, signing for £3.4million from Eintracht Frankfurt.

The former Ghana international was an instant success at Elland Road and his stunning volley against Wimbledon, later voted goal of the 1995/96 season, earned him cult hero status.

However, the 49-year-old has admitted it all could have gone very differently had Bayern been prepared to offer him more money.

'I was with my advisor Joachim Leukel in Munich,' he told German publication Sport Bild.

'Actually, at the beginning everything was going fine, but then they offered 200,000 German marks (£80k a year), so I signed for Leeds United.'

Yeboah went on to make 66 Premier League appearances for the Whites, scoring 32 goals before opting to return to Germany with Hamburg in 1997.
