Zlatan Ibrahimovic notched a brace to take his season tally to 32 Ligue 1 goals as Paris Saint-Germain responded to their Champions League disappointment with a thumping 6-0 defeat of sorry Caen.

The hosts' talismanic striker scored in both halves to ensure that his goal tally for this term would surpass any number of league goals scored previously throughout his glittering career in Sweden, Holland, Italy and Spain.

Blaise Matuidi, Edison Cavani, Angel Di Maria and Brazilian defender Maxwell all got in on the act too as the recently crowned champions ran riot at the Parc des Princes – four days after their Champions League exit at the hands of Manchester City.

Laurent Blanc's team wasted little time in stamping their authority on the match when arguably their two best players this season, Ibrahimovic and Di Maria, combined and the latter's powerful drive from distance evaded a seemingly wrong-footed Remy Vercoutre in the Caen goal.

Undeterred, the visitors offered an immediate response, but Ronny Rodelin's back-post volley grazed the outside of Salvatore Sirigu's post after Vincent Bessat had picked him out.

As half-time approached, Cavani found himself the subject of the Parc des Princes jeers when he burst through one on one with Vercoutre only to miss the target before Benjamin Stambouli cleared off the line at the other end to spare the PSG blushes.

Then, with referee Bartolomeu Varela ready to blow his whistle, the champions doubled their lead as Matuidi finished off a great team goal, blasting beyond Vercoutre from 10 yards after Ibrahimovic rolled the ball into his path.

Blanc's team came flying out of the traps following the restart and added another three goals inside the opening 15 minutes.

Cavani made up for his earlier miss, netting on 47 minutes after Matuidi picked him out inside the area, and Di Maria added his name to the scoresheet moments later by sending a wonderful scooped effort over a stranded Vercoutre from just outside the area.

Ibrahimovic notched his second goal of the game to hand PSG a 5-0 lead inside an hour, finishing confidently first time after meeting Layvin Kurzawa's perfectly timed delivery from the left.

There was still plenty of time for PSG to rub salt in Caen's wounds and Maxwell added a sixth as the final 10 minutes approached when Hervin Ongenda and Cavani combined to tee up the Brazilian defender at the near post.
