THE 4 GARRISON Officers Mess Tennis Club in Kumasi will lock horns with the Sakumono Tennis Club from Accra in a special Independence Day Tennis Championship, starting from March 4 to 7.

The four-day tournament, which is at the invitation of the Mess Tennis Club, would see the two combatants battling for top honours in the men's singles, men's doubles, ladies singles and ladies doubles.

Two leading financial institutions in the country, The Royal Bank and Access Bank are the proud sponsors of this year's special edition of the Independence Day Tennis Championship, which would surely produce fireworks.

The Head of Marketing, Research and Corporate Affairs of The Royal Bank, Dr. Kwame Baah-Nuako said is his outfit's contribution towards the development of the game, adding “we are proud to be part of the tournament.”

Mr. Richard Torku, the Northern Sector Head of Access Bank, said his bank is impressed about how Mess Tennis had promoted tennis in the region lately, noting that their gesture is to help promote tennis as a sport.

President of Mess Tennis, Samuel Ampadu-Kyei aka 'Kyikyiss,' said the two clubs decided to take advantage of the Independence Day holiday to test the strength of each other to help boost the play.

Mess Tennis would parade stars such as ACP Adusah Poku, Samuel Ampadu-Kyei, Nana Attakora, Kwasi Dekyi, Kofi Otoo, Peprah Sarpong, Kofi Affum Baffoe, Alex Yeboah Asuamah, Ernest Antwi and Kwabena Asabere.

The rest are Brig. Gen. J. Adu Boampong, Yaw Nimo Baffour, Maxwell Owusu, Major Festus Adangabey, Capt. Joseph Abdulai Luri, Justice Edward Amoako Asante, Kwadwo Kyei, Dr. Kojo Ansah and Robert Tetteh.

The Mess Tennis ladies team would also parade crack tennis stars like Brenda Sutinga, Linda Oduro, Charlotte Nyamekye and Mrs. Evelyn Addai Mensah. Salifu Seidu Abebe is expected to captain the Mess Tennis Team.

Sakumono is likely to feature players like Alhaji Osman, Joe Biney, Arnold Priddy, Kojo Stephens, Sam Adablah, Fred Tsyi, Sam Donkor, Frank Addy, Frank Tawiah, NiiNii Lawson, Peace FM's Kwame Sefa Kayi, Kofi Babson, Bernard Nii Bortey, Eric Owusu, Louisa Davies, Martha AMo-Gottfried and Naa Shika Tina Yamak.
