Accra, Nov 30, GNA - Solomon Nyarko, a 17-year old resident of Takoradi at the weekend emerged the National Junior Badminton champion of the National Badminton Association of Ghana's organized championship held in Takoradi, in the Western Region.
Nyarko who exhibited great prospect during the tournament gave the enthusiastic supporters an understandable reason to be optimistic about his future when he thrashed highly rated Jeff Asare of the Greater Accra Region, 2-0 in the finals of the Under-18 competition.
The competition brought together participants from the Greater Accra, Western and Eastern Regions and saw another youngster, Ben Prah also from Takoradi winning the U-16 boys category to confirm the superiority of the Westeners.
Prah followed the footsteps of Nyarko to post a 2-0 win over Joseph Sagoe also of Takoradi whilst Jocelyn Davis from Greater Accra Region triumphed over Martha Forson 2-0 in the girls finals.
The seniors' version of the competition is billed for the Ohene Djan Sports Stadium on December 3 and 4.
Players expected to partake in the two-day programme includes Issah Mohammed, Isaac Okine, Martin Owusu, Ekow Ansah, Francis Mireku, Theresa Tetteh and Ennoo Mary among others.
