President of the Ghana Weightlifting Federation (GWF) Ben Nunoo-Mensah says his outfit's target is basic schools.

He pointed out that the initiative forms part of the Federation's quest to institute the sport in schools at the juvenile level as well as take the sport a notch higher in the country and beyond.

The weightlifting chief lauded De United Foods (Gh) Limited, producers of Indomie noodles for their sponsorship package which includes GH₵ 20,000 cash and GH₵10,000 worth of Indomie products.

“The support we have received today will go a long way to help the federation with the activities we have lined up for the year. The first has to do with the youth development program we going to embark on.”

“The essence of the youth development programme is to create visibility of weightlifting at the early stages of the lives of the youth; we are targeting primary school children from age 13 and below,” Nunoo Mensah said after the presentation on Friday.

He called on other corporate organisations to also come on board.

Country Director of De United Foods (Gh) Limited, Mahesh Shar noted that the support forms part of his company's dedication to help the development of sport in Ghana saying, “Just like sports, my outfit believes in the need for healthy living so it is for this common goal that we did not hesitate when we were approached to support the sports of weightlifting.”

Deputy Youth and Sports Minister Vincent Oppong Asamoah commended the donors highly for the support.
