Fenway Sports Group,  Liverpool’s  owners, will hold talks to discuss their next move following the mass exodus from Anfield in protest at their controversial ticket prices.

More than 10,000 Liverpool fans left the stadium in the 77th minute of the 2-2 draw with Sunderland on Saturday, scenes which have subsequently triggered great debate. The 77th minute was chosen as that will be the price of the most expensive seat in the revamped Main Stand next season.

FSG were taken aback by the demonstration and high-level meetings took place over the weekend. More transatlantic discussions are expected to take place, as Liverpool consider reviewing their pricing structure. It is a move that has been welcomed by supporters.

The mood inside Anfield turned dramatical at the time of the walkout and FSG were startled by the numbers involved, as well as being taken aback by the mood of fans, who waved black flags at the front of the Kop and chanted “you greedy b******s, enough is enough!” at the directors box.

Ian Ayre, the club’s chief executive, was in his usual front row seat for the game against Sunderland but chairman Tom Werner, principal owner John W Henry and president Mike Gordon are all aware of how high feelings are running.
