FEB 7, 2016 LISTEN

The Miners booked their ticket to the Super cup clash after winning last season's Ghana premier league for the first time in 19 years while Medeama SC also beat Asante Kotoko 2-1 to win the FA Cup.

The clash will also serve as a curtain raiser for the kick start of the domestic top-flight championship which has been scheduled to take off on 20thFebruary, 2016.

The Obuasi based-club have endured torrid pre-season  games while the Tarkwa based side have had a smooth pre-season preparation and the two gaffers - Bahsiru Hayford of Ashanti Gold and Medeama's Swedish tactician Tom Strand have promised a good game.

In the transfer window, both sides made some interesting signings but per the recent games played between the two sides, the reigning FA Cup champions look favourites to win the day.

However, Ashanti Gold midfielder Alhassan Nuhu ahead of the game told Pulse.com.gh that their clash against Medeama form part of their preparations for their upcoming continental game with the Algerian side MO Bajaia.

'It will be a good for us because it forms part of our preparation against MO Bajaia, we are taking the Super cup serious because we know that Medeama have a good team. Our aim is to win the trophy in order to send out a strong signal to our CAF champions league opponents and ahead of the upcoming Ghana premier league,' said Nuhu.

But Medeama's tall lanky shot stopper Muntari Tagoe ahead of the Sunday's game said, the trophy is the ultimate.

'The trophy is the ultimate, we have to beat Ashanti Gold for it, last two years we lost the same trophy to Kotoko but not this time, we are going all out because we are not going to underrate them and I'm optimistic at the end of 90 minutes we will be winners,' Muntari replied.
