Frustrated Jordan Ayew gets the send off after crazy elbowing incident

Aston Villa manager Remi Garde has described Jordan Ayew's sending off in Tuesday night's 2-0 loss at West Ham as stupid.

The manager has joined a Twitter chorus to lambaste the five-goal striker for his early minute red card which costed the strugglers all three points at the Upton Park.

The 24-year-old was marched off by referee Jonathan Moss in the 17th minute after he elbowed West Ham defender Aaron Cresswell in an off-the-ball incident.

West Ham capitalised on their numerical advantage to hand Villa, who are battling relegation, their 15th defeat of the season.

And, the French tactician says Ayew's vicious act in the box that caused him the red card was needless and stupid.

"There is this stupid fault from Jordan Ayew and then after that 10 v 11, it's difficult but then we coped quite well," he said in the post-match interview.

"We defended with a lot of discipline and rigor. They scored from a goal which could have been offside. It was very tough tonight," he added.

The ex-Olympique Marseille man, who joined the Villains from Lorient in the summer, who missed Villa's home tie against Norwich City on Sunday and will also be left out of the squad for the crucial tie against Liverpool on Valentine Day.

The red card was Ayew's only second league booking since the start of his professional career - the first was in a French Ligue 1 game for Sochaux against Monaco in August 2014.
