Essien celebrates his first goal for Greek side Panathinaikos

Ghana star Michael Essien has fixed his sights firmly on helping Panathinaikos win the Greek Super League title after scoring his debut goal for the Greens on Sunday.

Essien, 33, grabbed his first goal for the under-performing Panathinaikos on his ninth appearance for the club this season.

The former Chelsea and Real Madrid star raced unmarked into the box to apply a clinical but powerful volley to a Thelander Mesto artful crossfield effort on the 78th minute mark.

Despite his playing time at the Stadio Apóstolos Nikolaidis being limited by injuries, Essien, who joined Panathinaikos from AC Milan in the summer says he is glad to regain his fitness and has aimed for the league title.

"I had some bad luck early in the season with injuries, but now the important thing is to help the team achieve its objectives, that is to say win a title this season," the former Olympique Lyon midfielder said in the post-match press conference.

Essien also expressed his joy on his official Twitter account after the match.

Well done boys, good win today, good to get on the score sheet.Keep the good work up#Pao🍀🍀🍀👊🏿 https://t.co/Udf7GmAZ09
